01 The forever problem

For thirty years, switching to Linux has meant giving up the programs you rely on and relearning how a computer works. So almost everyone stays put, and puts up with the accounts, the adverts, the tracking and the restarts. Wild OS closes that gap. It keeps the Windows way of working and the Windows programs, and puts hardened Linux privacy underneath.

Everything you keep.

  • Your Windows programs and tools
  • Start, the taskbar and the system tray
  • File Explorer habits and shortcuts
  • Snap layouts and Alt+Tab
  • Your documents, photos and music

Everything you leave behind.

  • Signing in with a Microsoft account
  • Licence keys and activation
  • Telemetry and usage tracking
  • Adverts in Start and the lock screen
  • Restarts forced by updates
  • Features you never asked for

02 Windows apps

Bring every program you rely on.

Double-click a Windows installer, just as you always have. Wild OS works out how to run it, gives it its own sealed space and asks before it touches anything else.

Most programs run straight on the desktop.

Each one runs in its own sandbox and pins to the taskbar like any other app. Quick to open and light on memory.

The stubborn ones use Windows mode.

A private copy of Windows runs quietly out of sight. Its programs still appear one at a time as normal windows on your desktop, with no second screen to manage.1

Walled off either way.

Windows programs only see the folders you share with them. They can't snoop on the rest of your computer or report home behind your back.

03 Everyday

Familiar on day one. Better by day two.

Everything sits where Windows taught you to look for it. No retraining, no terminal, no hunting for settings. Just less clutter.

Start, without the adverts.Your apps and recent files. Search never leaves your computer.
Everything one click away.Wi-Fi, sound, brightness and battery from the taskbar.
Snap, just like you remember.Arrange windows side by side, in thirds or in quarters.

04 Built on Kicksecure

Hardened underneath. Effortless on top.

Kicksecure is a security-focused version of Debian from the team behind Whonix, trusted by people who can't afford to be watched. Wild OS takes that core and makes it something anyone can use.

  • Firewall on
  • Apps sandboxed
  • Disk encrypted
  • Nothing collected
  • No account needed
  • Camera asks first
  • Updates on your terms
01

Hardened from the kernel up

Kicksecure tightens hundreds of kernel and system settings that ordinary Linux leaves open, closing off whole classes of attack before an app ever runs.

02

Every app on a short leash

Programs are confined with AppArmor and their own sandboxes, so one bad download can't read your files, watch your camera or reach the rest of the system.

03

Debian underneath

The same rock-solid foundation that runs a large share of the world's servers, with decades of security fixes behind it.

04

Updates you can trust

Updates are signed and verified before they install, can be fetched over Tor if you like, and never restart the machine without asking.

05

Encrypted from day one

Your whole disk is encrypted at install, so a lost or stolen laptop is a locked box.

06

No phoning home

Nothing about how you use your computer is collected, sold or sent anywhere. There's no account to sign in to.

05 Free

Free. Not freemium.

No licence, no subscription, no premium tier and no catch. Wild OS is open source and built in public, so anyone can read the code, check what it does and make it better.

0licence fees, today or ever
0accounts to create

06 Switching

An afternoon, not a project.

When Wild OS launches, Windows stays exactly where it is until you decide otherwise. You can stop after any step.

  1. 1Try it from a USB stick.Use Wild OS for real without touching your disk.
  2. 2Install alongside Windows.Drag to share the space, then choose which to start.
  3. 3Bring your files and programs.Copy your documents across and reinstall the programs you use.

Set your computer free.
